Product reviews are an integral part of the shopping experience, as they help in making informed decisions. Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, has now confirmed that it is testing a new AI-generated feature in its Shopping app – summaries of product reviews. These summaries condense hundreds or thousands of reviews into helpful insights.
The AI-generated summary provides a brief summary of both the positive and negative feedback about products, and it is noted that it is “AI-generated from the text of customer reviews”. With reviews being one of the primary factors that influence people’s purchasing decisions, this new feature could potentially be useful for users. However, its impact on sales, whether negative or positive, remains to be seen.

Amazon confirmed the test but has not revealed any details about how it is generating these product summaries. An Amazon spokesperson said, “We are significantly investing in generative AI across all of our businesses.”
Apart from summaries of product reviews, Amazon is reportedly preparing to add generative AI to its search experience. The company is also building tools for advertisers that can generate videos and images.
This new test from Amazon highlights how AI continues to change how businesses operate and interact with their customers. While Amazon has not given a timeline for when this feature will be widely available, it is exciting to see how AI-generated summaries of product reviews could change the way we shop online.
